Love Under Funnel Cake and Vengaboys is Space Club HQ's 2nd floor exhibition running through the month of January that showcases works of art that celebrate life in all of its quirky, weird and beautiful glory.

"One of the most perpetuated art myths is that of the tortured artist, alone in his studio, slaving away. Genius may only be birthed at the height of isolation and psychological torment, at least according to the accepted folklore. But is there not more to it? Are there not instances of joy, happiness, surprise, even jubilation in the process of art making? Must art be existentially tortured in order to be “good”? Are “fun” and “art” mutually exclusive entities?

Love Under Funnel Cake and Venga Boys is a show that seeks to debunk these myths. It features the work of artists who proudly fly in the face of convention and who defy the concept of art-making as a tortuous, labored process. It showcases artwork that examines life with intelligence and sensitivity, yet also celebrates it in all of its quirky, weird and beautiful glory.

The sculptor Erwin Wurm once said, "If you approach things with a sense of humor, people immediately assume you're not to be taken seriously. But I think truths about society and human existence can be approached in different ways. You don't always have to be deadly serious. Sarcasm and humor can help you see things in a lighter vein.” So let us give existential torment a break for the evening and instead revel in the wonderful discovery that is art and the process of making it. Let us remember that there are two sides of every coin, and recognize that joy is just as much a part of life as anguish."

    Opening Reception SATURDAY 1/12/2013; 6PM-9PM

Maria Dimanshtein will be hosting "Mood Cookies And Tea." She will be serving hot tea and home-made cookies 6 - 7:30 pm on the day of the opening. Come by for a chance to choose a cookie that speaks to how you feel. First come first served.

I was one of 25 selected artists to participate in the Ads2Art project sponsored by Alex and Ana Bogusky. This project will transform traditional logo space into a public art project on the baskets of 50 Boulder B-cycle bikes cruising around Boulder, CO for the next year.

The original panels will be sold in an auction this Thursday, June 2 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Ads2Art Gala - Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art, 1750 13th Street Boulder, CO 80302. If you're in town, stop by the BMOCA and snag an original piece of artwork. If you can't make it, the piece I created can also be seen in the 2011 portfolio section of this web site or on the streets of Boulder for the next year.

    SAIC BareWalls '09

For the seventh year now, I was chosen to participate in this amazing event!

The School of the Art Institute of Chicago’s (SAIC) Alumni Association proudly hosts the 15th annual BareWalls fundraising event for more than 1,000 of Chicago’s major arts patrons, art and culture seekers, and civic and business leaders on:

Saturday, Oct 10 at 6 p.m in the SAIC’s critically acclaimed Sullivan Galleries,
33 S. State Street, 7th Floor Chicago, IL

BareWalls attendees will enjoy live music, hors d'oeuvres, dessert, beer and wine. A silent auction offers guests the opportunity to bid on works of art as they are being created.

Each year, BareWalls raises more than $125,000 for the BareWalls Student Scholarship Fund. By participating in this exciting and exclusive event, guests benefit the educations of young artists and designers striving to join the SAIC’s growing list of noteworthy graduates.

Each year, more than 100 SAIC alumni and faculty are selected by a jury of artists and critics to donate their time and talent for this special fundraiser event. Because some artists create original works of art on site throughout the BareWalls attendees obtain unique insights into their creative process. Other artists support the event by submitting previously completed artwork for a silent auction. For tickets and a
complete list of this year’s participating artists visit:

    BareWalls '09

Throughout the years, notable SAIC alumni such as Ellen Lanyon, Jonathan Green, Richard Hunt, LeRoy Neiman, Ed Paschke, Elizabeth Murray, Robert Natkin, Cynthia Rowley and Karl Wirsum have participated, painting alongside their fellow alumni in a show of spontaneous creativity.

Check out the BareWalls section of my website to see the paintings I've created in the past.
